RC&D is short for Resource Conservation and Development.  RC&D is a locally initiated, locally sponsored and locally directed program, usually covering several counties which have similar problems and opportunities.  A combination of people, rural development needs, ideas and solutions RC&D provides a framework for rural issues through citizen participation.

The Coronado RC&D was authorized in 1971 under the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  It operates under the provision of the following laws:  PL74-46, 16USC 1010-1022; and PL97-98, 16USC 3451-3461 and is a 501c(3) corporation.

The area includes the five southeast Arizona counties of Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pima and Santa Cruz.  Land area equals 15 million acres; 21% Private, 55% State and Federal and 24% Indian Reservation.  The rural population is approximately 175,000.

Any local unit of government in the area such as cities, towns, counties, conservation districts and Indian tribes can be a member.  Non-profit organizations with similar missions may also be members.

The success of the RC&D Area is dependent upon the dedication of sponsors, volunteers and cooperating agencies. Through these partnerships, the Coronado RC&D Area has been able to accomplish a variety of projects that have been of benefit to Southeastern Arizona.
